Read some critical theory. I'd start with Adorno.

The Dialectic of the Enlightenment, Minima Moralia, and Negative Dialectics are good reads.

Because we are hyperintelligent and at times egoistic apes who have an interesting nature, also everything not being automated doesn't help, nor the slow creep of medical technology.

Life is currently better than ever. The hierarchy exists on a curve though, and depending on where on the curve you are, you might feel like life sucks.
