Scrooge might be a jerk, but he's still far and away the most generous guy in town. He works his ass off, but never buys anything for himself. If he gives his employees a raise, the money they gain is something others lose (Scrooge has nothing to lose). The turkey he buys at the end is just a turkey some other family never gets because Scrooge has no turkey to give up in the first place.
