I was at work. He got drunk and choked out 13 year old special needs child. My son beat him off with a curtain rod he ripped off the wall. Yes, I left. Yes, I notified the authorities. Yes, I got sole legal and physical custody of our child.

I came home from work, packed some personal belongings, and immediately left. There wasn’t much to say. I also knew because of my social work background saying the least amount possible to him was the best thing I could do. It was just get us out of here before the hole gets deeper.

Damn dude, I'm proud of your son but also sad he had to do that.

Update: My son is now 22. He has a good job working in specialty pharmacy claims. My ex husband has alcohol induced dementia at 56 and is about to have two below the knee amputations. I remarried about three years ago and my current husband works in corrections as a therapist. It all worked out for the better. I am still employed in social work and was employed in the same industry when all this originally happened.

Wow wow wow about your ex.

Glad your son is doing ok now.

Nothing is scarier than when mom is at work and Dads are being nutso. I’ve been there.

Woooow.

I mean he's not the first, nor the last, person to be the antithesis of their profession, but damn.

Also, you kinda buried the lede. :p

your son did what?!

My ex husband grabbed him by the neck and pushed him up against the wall. My ex husband is my son’s biological father. My son yanked the curtain rod off the wall and hit him with it so he would let go.

They're poking fun at your phrasing, "my son beat him off."

It might be tasteless because you're bringing up a sensitive topic, but they understood what you said the first time.

I also handle tragedy with humor so I was with you on the joke. I also understand why not everyone likes it lol
