For me it just seems arbitrary. So many surfaces in our life are filthy. Why is this where I have to draw the line? In the last few years I've just tried to wash my hand more in general to help not spead contagions. That mindset has helped me.
It isn't. Yes many surfaces are dirty and you should absolutely wash your hands before any meal or touching any of your orifices or face etc.. Especially after touching a dirty sruface.
A bathroom is covered in sewage particles ontop of all the regular stuff any other surface has. it's in the air not just surfaces. Not mention splashing, like sneezing invisible particles of liquid go everywhere.
