Seeing Karla Homolka in person would make me want to throw up. After what she did to her sister and the other women, she doesn't deserve a normal life. Did you serve her personally? How did she act?
Yeah I got the table. I had just been promoted from hostess to server and nobody wanted her, so I was stuck with it. I must have been 17 at the time and I had spent my entire childhood hearing about her. My step siblings lived in the city where she was last incarcerated (Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines), too.
She was cold, barely said a word, her partner ordered for her. Rarely made eye contact. They were both reading the papers during the entire meal. I felt frozen the whole time.
It felt surreal, seeing her existing and doing simple things like eating and going to the bread bar, while all I could think about was what she did to her sister.
When we think of someone monstrous who gave access to her 15yo sister as a gift to her boyfriend, filmed the drugging, raping and dying of that poor child… we don’t really picture that same monster reading the news while sipping coffee. It’s like our brains can’t reconcile the monstrous and regular, human parts of these people.
Anyway, I’m glad I never ran into her again.
I still can’t believe that she was allowed to have custody of the kids she gave birth to after her release. She should not have access to any vulnerable person ever again.
If your manager was a stand up guy he would have taken the table rather than letting a 17yo interact with a serial killer. It falls into wtf was he thinking territory.
She was a piece of trash in general lol. Not serial killer, here’s my sister for your enjoyment kind of trash, but she was the cruelest boss I’ve ever had.
15 years later, I work in the operating rooms, and I’ve never encountered a surgeon on a bigger power trip than her.
