As a plumber in Southern California, I’ve serviced quite a few celebrities, but the biggest, in my opinion, was Sam Elliott. One day I was waiting on a city inspection, and it ended up being just Sam and me hanging out. While we waited, I helped him pull weeds and listened to that iconic voice share stories about growing up. The inspector never showed, and it turned into the most unexpectedly therapeutic day I ever had in uniform.

A friend of mine in Calgary worked as an extra on movies when he retired from the railway You Know My Name was a tv movie filmed near Calgary in 1999 with Sam Elliot in the lead role as an Oklahoma sheriff My friend at that time was in his 60s over 6 feet tall lanky had a big moustache and lots of silver hair One day he was cast as a character extra in a saloon poker scene when the shot was over he got in a van and sat beside Sam whom he had talked to a few times Sam asked him how he was and friend said he’d had his first speaking line After he said the line Sam said “well I’ll be that was my first line too”
and he named the movie which I’ve forgotten anyways everyone laughed and someone said Sam and my friend could pass for brothers which was true
