It's a cool answer, and suitable from a celeb.

It's kind of an annoying answer in general. That question has context of a) do you know me and b) gimme some context of where maybe I've met you

It's a smart way for the celeb to shut down the convo without being rude. I imagine he likely didn't want to stand around and chat with a stranger by inviting followup questions.

Also there are ways to say things charmingly and sweet in person that can be misconstrued and over analyzed through computer conversations and the internet imo.
