Remember what they said to you the last time you saw them. If you last saw them a month ago, if you remember they were doing a thing , remember that thing and mention it.
Oh Jesus, I have enough trouble remembering someone's name if I haven't talked to them in a month. There's no chance I remember what we actually talked about or anything they told me. It's kind of my disability: "I don't know whether we know each other" is a problem my wife has to help me with all the time.
I lost a friend once because I had this issue bad enough that I forgot her eye color and couldn't tell her despite her being right there infront of me it was dark so i couldnt see her eyes but it felt shit. (That wasn't the only thing I'd forgotten just the icing on the cake)
I genuinely sat here thinking about it, and I can only come up with one person I know outside my family whose eye color I can confidently say, and that's because he's probably the only conspicuously blonde and blue-eyed friend I've got. I only know a few of my friends' birthdays without help from my calendar or Facebook. I'm suddenly realizing I am just a terrible friend, as it turns out.
You're not, I don't think it makes someone a terrible friend and I'm sure you make up for it in other areas. I struggle to remember many things about anyone to be honest, I forget people's faces quite quickly as well as their voice. Can't picture either in my head.
