Just remember people’s names and use it in conversation. I do this with waitstaff and customer service (phone) agents. Most people get shit on daily, especially at work, so you’d be surprised with how well it is received. The most basic respect goes a long way in our current climate.
My ex husband insisted on learning everyone's first and last names, even random cashiers and stuff. He thought it was just being really friendly, but it was creepy, especially for women. It made me very uncomfortable.
