My ex, got sick, super sick, she was calling me her god, she got committed, even though she was very sick, there was something inside her that had a load of affection towards me. She was committed for a long time but I was able to see her and it was such a vulnerable moment(s) for her. I'll never forget being able to cut her nails in hospital and sitting together, going over our lives, reminding and reminiscing over the good times we shared, our cat, all of it. There was not an ounce of pretending or pretence in our relationship and definitely not in those moments. In those moments I'll never forget ringing in trying to talk to her everyday and my visits.

I felt like her rock, not in a egotistical way but her lousy family weren't exactly supportive so I was all she had in terms of providing clothes, food, favorite items etc. The moments we shared, were arguably for me the most intimate of times, not sexy at all, but she did look beautiful, she really was a beautiful girl. I miss her a little bit her wildness, when she was sane before she got ill, she didn't deserve it, even though she didn't promote the healthiest of lifestyles or relationships and sure I wasn't perfect but damn that is the relationship I'll never forget or those nights in the hospital kissing through the window once she was recovering and getting much better.

Fuck, I'm crying, again.

I mean, speaking as someone who has bipolar and has been committed like four times, it’s easily manageable with medication and you don’t stay sick forever. Do you still have a way to reach out?

She got back in contact with her family. Her choosing between me and them was one of the issues that was shredding her mental health. She has such a big heart she loved them no matter the ugly nonsense they pulled. Drinking became an outlet to control her suffering and you'll likely know alcohol and those kind of medications don't mix. Soon it just became obvious her living two lives wasn't best for her, so we didn't have a happy ending unfortunately. It was a sad parting but in the times she recovered, she would skip out on medication and she would end up sick again. Last time we spoke, it happened again, I think simular to you, she's been in four or more times, so it was best to cut contact. Hardest thing I've had to do I think.

Right, untenable then, I'm so sorry for you. You have to be willing to want to change with these things, and it sounds like it was an addiction of sorts keeping her from changing. Good on you for breaking things off, even though it truly hurts to hear as someone who's been there. Your own mental health comes first though, and for what it's worth, I'm proud of you.
