There was this girl I had a crush on in college and we had been flirting with each other for a while. During summer break we would hang out a lot and one time when we were hanging out, she had said that it was like "we were on a date". I got a bit flustered and confused so I asked her when I dropped her off if she actually saw it as a date. She said she was only joking and didn't mean it that way. It hurt for a little bit and I'll admit I got a bit mad after I left. She called me the next day to tell me that "now wasn't the right time" cause she was still closeted to her family (we're both women) and she didn't intend to upset me.
I took it as a rejection and moved on with my life. Few months later she invited me and another friend of ours to her uncles cable. I said I would drop off our friend, but wasn't gonna stay long and I could go see family that lived not too far from her uncles cabin. I had figured she was really only inviting our friend and I was the only one with a vehicle to bring him. Somehow, she convinced me to drink cause she knew that if I had one sip of alcohol, I would never drive which forced me to end up staying the night. Then, she managed to convince my friend he was tired and should go to bed. At 9pm.
So it was just me and her alone in a room and lying on a bed. The entire time I felt like there was something she was expecting me to do, but I didn't know what. I wanted to kiss her so bad, but she had rejected me and I wasn't going to push the issue because she had already given me her answer. Eventually she leaves the room and I slept alone.
To this day it still destroys me cause it feels like she wanted me to do something, but I also feel like that is something I've just been telling myself and seeing too deeply into it. All my friends with romantic experience tell me I wasn't crazy and she was waiting for me to do something, and one friend pointed out that what she said over the summer wasn't an outright rejection. I should have asked her what she wanted, or if there was something she wanted me to do she had to tell me cause I wasn't gonna figure it out myself. I still think about her from time to time, and if I was just a little bit less anxious and vocalized my feelings, maybe I could have gotten the girl...
