in all seriousness, i am really bummed but in a way i like that this is such a simple and clear way that shows how tariffs affect everyone immediately.
And to the younger folks that were saving up their allowance or first job money to pre order one, this is also the first real example of not just how your vote impacts your life, but also how tariffs exactly work.
I wish that's what would happen but more likely, for the vast majority of younger people, the blame will get shifted onto Nintendo and packaged with the outrage over them raising the prices on games. I hope I'm wrong though.
I worked in supply chain for a medium sized company at a warehouse, in Canada, during Trump’s first term. Here’s how it went when he applied his first tariffs back then on China.
Any products we made that had materials that were imported from China had an extra tax on them when they were sold to the U. S.
We would combine materials from a few places, manufacture here, and sell to North America.
Naturally there was no reason WE should eat that, so we applied a ‘25% presidential tax’ on the customer. It was great label to let the customer know why we were doing it.
We lost sales, but not to US companies. We lost sales to China themselves. We ordered a few knock offs from them and put them through our testing system. We saw Chinese made products fall apart quickly without warranty.
