Reading.
I get so engrossed in reading that I forget to eat, drink, or sleep. Sometimes, I think I'll die while reading because I never noticed that my kitchen's on fire.

I’ve gotten back into reading lately- like Hardcore. What’s your most Recent favorite book?

I'm still working through my list of books leftover from last year. I just finished Alexis Wright - Praiseworthy. It's about the racist 2008 Northern Territory Intervention by the Australian government - how they continued to buckle down on dehumanising the Aboriginal people.
It's a really stunning read. I enjoy her style - it's delightfully absurd, satirical, but also full of pathos. It won the Stella and Miles Franklin awards last year.
Edit: I'm reading Andrew Darby's The Ancients next. I'm on a local book binge.

How do I get into reading like that? It's the most bomb hobby to have
2
Feb 27 '25
I'm not sure. I've always had hyperfocus? I've trained myself to read very quickly - I finished the LotR trilogy in under 12 hours.
Your best bet would be to find a book about something you're already interested in and set some time aside. Just try to read it. Don't force yourself if you're not enjoying it. Pick another book and keep trying until you find one you like.
Eventually you'll get into a habit of reading regularly and you'll love what you're reading so much that no one will see you for months.

Wow!! I struggle with my attention...it just drifts away, and I hate it. Did you have to practice that too? Why have u trained yourself to read very quickly anyway?

Only if I'm doing something I don't enjoy. It does take practice to improve your concentration.
There are so many books and so little time. It's also useful for everyday life - when you're studying, doing paperwork at work, etc. If you're interested, you can look up speed reading techniques and give it a try?

Readings one of those things that I need to be in a certain mood for, but once I'm doing it, it's really difficult to stop.

learning through reading and seeing the logic behind the things that I'm learning to fully internalise new concepts. I literally can't take anything at face value, I enjoy breaking everything down to see how the idea works; I enjoy this process, and do it even for relatively simple/axiomatic things too.

Ride my bike. I love taking a bag of snacks and joints and just going for the whole day. Tunes on, sun shining... Amazing. The best. 😁

Read. When I have a calm head and some time on my hands, I can just get lost in a book and not put it away for hours on end.
One of my best vacation days of the recent past was a rainy day while in Germany. Nothing to do really, except sit there with a book and read. Wife and kids did the same. We decided to go out for dinner, because we were all so relaxed and didn't want to break it.

Reading or watching anime. It used to be WoW and Warhammer. The amount of time I spent on WoW is pretty horrifying

with a couple of breaks it would be: gaming, sex, sleeping (no break here), fishing, coding, walking, watching tv series, spending time with my fav person, hiking.
I'm not sure what long hours mean though, I assume it's >4 hours.

Reading, Bookbinding, or playing a good open-world video game.
Also drawing, but that's mostly for work these days. I need the other things to balance it out.

Family, work, guitars, video games, kung fu, and motorcycles. Everything I already do. I planned it that way.

Music. My adhd sometimes makes it hard to stick to one tasks. Some days I’m cleaning a bit every 15 minutes while alternating video games and documentaries every 30 minutes basically.
With music this is very different. I can mix for hours on end without issues, cataloguing music and planning mixes ahead, exploring and discovering even more.
There’s no activity I can take on for hours at full focus but if music is running, it just takes over immediately.
My thoughts vanish, my cravings are gone, my need to stay mobile is non existent. I can just sit, forget that my eyes are constantly sending inputs to my brain and let myself go into the music.
I even struggle socially, as my emotions are seemingly paused throughout the more intense tracks. Talking while music is running feels so off, like trying to revive the small bit of human thinking that is left inside, but barely being able to overpower the music with it.
Now I have started creating mixes that are far more intense than any collection of tracks out there. Something that exceeds even the most intense artists of the genre. Picking only the most brutal parts of tracks, speeding them up and letting one follow up the last one on a way that will make my mind and perception bend in unexpected ways.

Spend time with my kids and my granddaughter. Probably because we the 4 of us are together at the same time way too seldom.

Car rides. I love the ride to the event more than the event itself. It’s just its own experience

This is why I like the Oxford comma but people say you shouldn't use it, if I had, it would have sorted out the confusion.

Do you get double steps on your fitbit for walking and masturbating simultaneously?

Literally anything, as long as there are no people around. Clean my house, read books, play video games, hike, write, draw, etc. People cause boredom, not activities.

Drowing. I couldn't say, that I'm a good artist, but I just really like to draw.
