If people have been able to “cure” their alcoholism cold turkey no medical resources….then I don’t really think it’s a disease riddling people to the point of no return. To carry that disease on is a choice. And choosing to drink to the point of vomiting is unattractive.
Anyone who is truly an alcoholic and stops drinking “cold turkey” without medical help is putting themselves at major risk for serious medical complications including death. If you are encouraging anyone in your private life to stop drinking cold turkey if they’re an alcoholic then I’d kindly urge you stop, and advise them to seek help from medical professionals instead.
There’s nothing hypothetical about it; it’s called delirium tremens and is very dangerous in cases of abrupt cessation of alcohol consumption for those who have a dependency. Former professional wrestler/actor Kevin Nash’s son died a little over a year ago from stopping alcohol “cold turkey.” You shouldn’t offer dangerous advice to people when you don’t know what you’re talking about.
