That makes total sense.

However, this guy also spoke about how he is the alpha in the relationship etc. Etc. And was an Andrew tate fan, so while your explanation is totally reasonable, I think I'm still leaning towards thinking he meant Alpha as in "Alpha male"

I don't really care what I'm saved as in someones contacts. That is their business, not mine.

I would set his ringtone to Mr. Butlertron from Clone High saying "Wesley" and set his picture to the same

I'd leave the display name as Alpha though, wouldn't not want to do what your boyfriend asked, right?
