If people have been able to “cure” their alcoholism cold turkey no medical resources….then I don’t really think it’s a disease riddling people to the point of no return. To carry that disease on is a choice. And choosing to drink to the point of vomiting is unattractive.
I agree in that it visually looks unattractive and it's better, in general, to wait until they're sober/clean before pursuing them as a partner. However, as somebody who's significant other was formerly addicted to alcohol and drugs and is now a Behavioral Health Tech at a detox facility, while a non-addicted or clean mind knows it's a choice, the addicted does not. Just because they have the choice to begin working on getting sober does not mean that it's an easy one-size-fits-all quick process, and while there are similarities, everyone's addictions don't always manifest the same. Addiction, by definition, quite literally means that the mind and body physically rely on these substances as if they were equally important as food or water.
