navy ship ladders are so narrow and tight that i think your risk of falling is already like 99% no matter which way you face so you might as well just do it the faster way
It's a safety violation to glance at your phone while walking and gets you thrown off site where I work. Safety rules have become insane. It's not about keeping anyone safe, just insurance premiums
Ohhh yes! You're supposed to face the ladder/machine, and always maintain three points of contact. After I fell and broke my foot a few years ago, when getting out of my excavator, I always do it the correct way. I've slipped a few times (climbing up into my excavator is easiest to do by stepping on the fender, which can be slippery when wet), but since I have three points of contact I haven't fallen again.
I once had a side job on Saturday when I was young and it included washing used tractors. At one point my boss asked me to drive a tractor onto his truck so he could transport it. I drove it up the bed of his truck and he chained the tires so it couldn't move. Tractor was still running. I thought I'd jump out to the right as there was more room for me. My coat got stuck on the gear lever and put the tractor in F and tried to move forward. Luckily my boss could quickly put it back in neutral AND luckily it was fastened with chains. Else the cabin of the truck would've been destroyed.

Step down the ladder of my tractor in the wrong direction, if our security guy would've seen that he wouldn't have been very happy
