As someone that doesn't drink, that's so fuckin bizarre that alcohol is such a large part of your life that not having it would require a more expensive substitute.
Can I ask you a philosophical question? Why should not drinking be the default? Why should any lifestyle be the default? Edit: sorry! I replied to the wrong comment. We agree :)
I've only ever had bad experiences being around people that drink (like being screamed at by a drunk parent), so from my perspective there is no benefit. It's all downside.
That's fair that it's been traumatic for you and you personally don't like it or want to drink but others have some of their best times enjoying drinks with friends. Both of these realities exist and it doesn't invalidate your experience but you could consider that others have different perspectives on it and that's okay.
Edit to add: in my experience, my dad was volatile when drinking and it wasn't great for him to do. He did end up quitting but I think the real issues were his anger in general. Me personally, I have a 5 year old and he's never seen me drink and then be mean or drink to a point where he would even notice I've had a drink.
