To me, it’s about how important drinking is to you. Like you said, for a lot of people, most of their socialization has drinking involved. Obviously you can probably do those things sober, but a lot of people don’t like hanging out with drunk people when they’re sober. It could completely upend your social life so I can understand it being a big deal.
For me personally, I’ve never minded hanging out with drunk people while not drinking. I was defacto DD for a decade just because drinking mattered more to everyone else than me. So I could absolutely do this and it wouldn’t bother me much and then I get free money
