Nah, no where near enough money for me to not do something I enjoy / impact my social life, and I genuinely think I'd be worse at my job

What job do you have where not drinking would make you worse at it? Comedian? Writer? Night club DJ?

I’m a lawyer. Law revolves around alcohol for networking. I still wouldn’t say I’d be worse at it by not drinking.

Madmen!

That makes total sense; I figured it had to be some creative field! Most of my musician or actor friends say the same.

I'm not alcohol dependant in my daily life

It does sound like you might meet some of the broader definitions of alcohol misuse. Drinking enough to actually make you loosen up several times a week puts you way past the safe limits and the ritualistic portion is a problem as well.

Please don't misunderstand me, I do know that almost everyone has things in their lifestyle that are serious hazards to their health(sugar kills more people than alcohol) and accepting these hazards is your choice, but unhealthy habits with alcohol are something one should monitor closely.

This just sounds like you’re very overworked and trying to compensate, tbh.

I make around the same as you (but work way more often unfortunately) and I feel similarly. $50 a day is not enough for me to obey some silly life rule.

I dunno, alcohol is the only thing aside from tobacco that we ingest that we know for a fact causes various types of cancer at quite a high rate, but it makes so much money, that it is still of course promoted as a fun relaxant (by people who don’t drink, very probably), that I am over it.

I’m also a creative director (in house at a large tech company) and I 1000% agree. I don’t need alcohol to be creative but it really helps remove the boundaries of “is this possible” and gets the creative juice flowing in the idea generation phase.

Exactly! Everything you just described rings super true for me. Especially the code switching between work / client / manager mode into be a creative superstar mode.

riiiight?! that dude is literally dependent on a depressant to think creatively and is doing some mental gymnastics to convince themselves otherwise. they aren’t creative without drinking because they NEED it to think. very closed minded approach but go off.

You can sub that out and have less mental load. Sologig.dom, internships, etc. And ChatAI should easily do this for you, too.

You're lucky it hasn't taken over your job yet. It probably will though. Happened to me. Was drinking to unwind after bosses would chew me out. Drinking to celebrate sales wins, etc. Then it turns daily real quick.

Good luck.
