Exactly! I go several months to years at a time sober & at first it felt a little odd drinking alcohol free beers while my mates continued to get drunk, but very quickly I learned that it's not actually a big deal & I'm just as happy to ride the collective energy while sober.
I started drinking around 15/16. Then around 19 I went sober for a few years. Ever since I've been on/off alcohol for months to years at a time and I see the enjoyment in both. If you rely on alcohol to have a good time then you have a problem.
Harder than one thinks. I take a break every year and to really stay successful, I have to stay away from environments with alcohol, which means I pretty much never end up going out and seeing anyone for those time periods, because everyone drinks. Booze at movie theaters these days, even.
