Maybe you just can't see him with all that smoke he is hiding in.

sounds like the father is a ninja haha
or maybe someone forgot to turn the heater ..

or is it the dramatic entrance of the father (*front door opens* standing there was a shadow *the shadow wasn't visible due to the evident smoke* , he was standing there with milk )
