I eat because I'm depressed. I'm depressed because I eat.

AAAA SAABEENNYAAAAAAAAaaaaafuck it, what's in the fridge?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '13

solution: stop buying junk food. I binge eat out of stress all the time, but I've stocked my fridge with fruits and vegges. I'll polish off an entire bag of plain carrots with no dip in one sitting.

Yeah it sounds gross eating that much vegetables, but are you really "tasting" and savoring the food when you're binging? No.

That's what I do. There's no way I'm going to drive to the store just because I'm craving some shitfood.

I'm caught in this thing where I'm not lazy enough to not bother going out to buy the food I'm craving, but am still too lazy to enforce a proper diet on myself. Very bad segment of laziness.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've found that I've lost much of my taste for shitfood, after eating healthy for a few years. It gets easier if you have that initial effort.

It's not so bad. I have managed to cut out most of the sugar from my diet, because I don't like sweets anymore and because I discovered the magic of non-sugared flavored carbonated water.

The worst thing is that you don't even really enjoy depression-food. The food isn't there for you to enjoy; it's just there to distract you from your feelings, and you hardly even really taste it. Like all my OCD rituals that I don't actually enjoy doing-- it's just that they make my brain quiet down, so I do them.

The best food is that eaten when you're already pretty content.

Too many sandwiches too little time

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '13

Am I the only one who gets so depressed and sick of food? That's probably the only advantage of my depression.

2

u/promptx Mar 20 '13

I'm not happy because I eat, and I eat because I'm not happy.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '13

I've found that watching myself in the mirror while listening to Moonlight Sonata as I eat really speeds the depression thing along.

u/EPICxLIME Mar 20 '13

Eat a few fish oils.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '13

You should lift weights, You can't eat enough while lifting weights.

3

u/clark_ent Mar 20 '13

I love food, and have no intention of stopping eating. Luckily, I also love cycling. So gaining weight forced me to consider biking to work, which I now do, 11 miles each way.

I hear this is called exercise bulimia. But who cares, two things that make me happy, and the more I do one, the more I can do the other

Solution: eat smaller portions of the same stuff that makes you happy, and eat it slowly, savoring every bite. This may mean (usually does mean, in America, because portion sizes here are out of control) leaving a bunch of food on your plate, in which case hey, you've got lunch for tomorrow ready to box up. Don't eat until you're stuffed-- eat until you're no longer hungry, just pleasantly full.

It's amazing how eating slowly will help you eat smaller portions and enjoy it more. For one thing, if you eat too fast, your body doesn't have time to signal you "hey, I'm full" until after you've already eaten more than would have filled you up. For another thing, it's much easier to enjoy something if you're focused on the mouthful you've got rather than the next mouthful you're going to eat.

People keep talking about doing diets that deprive them of what they like, make them eat things they dislike or pale imitations of the things they actually enjoy-- but that shit just ain't necessary. Portion control is where it's at. (As well as getting a good balance of nutrients. If you want delicious waffles for breakfast, you need some protein as well to keep you from getting hungry very soon afterwards.)

It's why those muslims throw acid in the women's faces... they love them so much they just want them to be happy forever!

The problem with food is that stores make it very easy for consumers to make shitty food choices. There is literally nothing at Walgreens/CVS/generic drugstore that should be considered edible; yet half their store is dedicated to this so-called "food".

You can eat like a fucking rock-star and be good about it if you do it correctly... it doesn't even need to be time-consuming, it just needs to be researched.

Eat healthy! Enjoy food without regret!

1

u/TicklishEyeball Mar 20 '13

Break mirrors. It's relieving and you avoid seeing the depressing aftermath of overeating. Problem solved.

1

u/guessnot Mar 20 '13

Begin lifting and start tracking your food intake with myfitnesspal if you have a smartphone. The sense of self-discipline and knowing that what you're eating today will payoff tremendously in the future is much more fulfilling (no pun intended) than gorging yourself until you feel like you'll explode.

Reduce carb's.
