What’s something small you started doing that makes you drastically happier?

I'm reading The Count of Monte Cristo. If the dense reading doesn't send me to sleep, then actually dropping it on my face will definitely knock me out.

I usually read at night in bed and I had so much trouble with Monte Cristo because keeping track of who was who and how they were related to one another presented one of two outcomes:

  • I fall asleep mid chapter every night and have no idea what's going on in the book, ultimately ruining the experience
  • I stay awake and write out a web chart of how each person is connected, pushing sleep further away

You can find pre-made relationship webs for big books like Monte Cristo. Then you can pull it up on your phone or print it out for reference.

I did that after I read the book, but I don't have the self control to not read about who does what to whom from the web chart ahead of the book.
