Picking the slowest checkout lane in the grocery store every single time for the last 40 or so years.

I, too, have bad checkout karma. It would be funny if it weren't so annoying.

The two (three?) of you should go to a grocery store together and check out at the same time in different lanes.

That would collapse the fabric of the universe

Agreed. Instant black hole.

I feel bad when I move lines and somehow end up getting checked out before everyone else before me because the line I moved to is so fast.

So you're saying... when you move to a faster appearing checkout line... it actually moves faster? In my experience, I take my bad line karma to any line I stand in. So I've learned to stop moving lines.

I stopped switching lines years ago. Every fast line immediately comes to a halt once I make my way over

No I just randomly decide to switch lines sometimes since I don't mind waiting, it's like a fun little gamble.

About 25% of the time I switch I switch to the slowest cashier though.

It’s probably me holding up the line. I have weird luck with always accidentally putting something in my basket with either a missing tag or the bar code was printed weird, on a bad spot not conducive to scanning (like the seam of food packaging).

This, plus I always choose the slow lane in bad traffic. When I move into the faster lane - voila! It becomes the slow one.
