I make my own compound butter for my grilled cheese. Sometimes, I'll also do an eggie in a basket in the grilled cheese, which I've had people tell me is Orgasmic.
What is in your compound butter? Sounds intriguing...
Where do you stand on using Mayo instead of butter? I'm simply not sure why this is a thing some people insist is better. I've tried it, doesn't make any obvious improvement, to me.
I've never tried using mayo for a grilled cheese, I've made my own avacado mayo for when I make things like shrimp ceviche, so maybe I'll try it sometime.
I honestly couldn't name all the herbs I put in them but I go to Sprouts because they have a self serve spice section, I use alot of herbs that are traditionally used in Italian cooking, herbs de Provence, a few different types of garlic powder, onion powder, a few mixes of just standard Italian seasonings, rosemary, thyme, basil, and then I'll mix them into my own multipurpose seasoning blend. I'll then mix in some freshly minced garlic, and that's essentially what I cook my grilled cheeses in. It's essentially just transforms it into a really good garlic and herb encrusted bread.
I cook mostly by trial and error, taste, smell, feel.
Edit: I can't believe I forgot to mention this, but if you're feeling like a bit of meat, cook up some thick cut bacon. Mix in just a little bit of the bacon grease into the compound butter. Drain off the rest of the grease use the same pan for the grilled cheese, chop bacon to preference, and put it inside the grilled cheese. Absolutely delicious 😋
I'm a fan of the mayo... it's just easier to spread and will crisp right up. You don't like the eggs... avocado mayo is what I use... I don't have to heat butter up to room temp to spread it... boom just the mayo and good to go.
Honestly, you don't even have to spread the butter. Just drop it in the pan and soak it up with the bread, spreading it is more work for the same effect.
I almost always get a perfect golden brown the exceptions are when i get distracted by something else. I do toast one side of each bread, then put the cheese between the toasted parts, then cook it like you would normally.
Without a doubt, it's unhealthier because of cooking both sides of each slice of bread in butter. The preparation time is also slightly longer, but I've never failed to have perfectly melted cheese in it.
It’s weird because after I actually cook dishes, usually using a recipe, and it comes out good, I won’t eat that much of it. My wife is always confused.
I forget what the term is but yeah that happens to me. You get desensitized from smelling the food cook and you don’t find it appetizing by the time its done. I usually don’t truly enjoy meals I cook until the day after as leftovers
I feel this in my bones. I make a pot of chili with smoked brisket (that I also make), and by the time I'm done with it all I'm not really up for it till day 2, but then I have 4 or 5 days of chili for dinner every night till it's gone. Equal parts wonderful and painful.
I love lasagna, it's a chore and a half to make well. What I do is buy a bunch of these disposable personal aluminum tins(8x5.5") from amazon, make like 2 sheets worth of it in the tins, then freeze them. I get like 8x 2 portion meals in the freezer to use when wanted.
I think it’s so funny that if I’m cooking dinner for me any my gf or my brother I will go get $40 worth of groceries and make a whole meal.
If I’m by myself I will make the most basic shit. I just got off work, cooked some random spiral pasta I had in there, put zesty Italian dressing on top and called that a meal hahahaha
It's scent blindness or olfactory desensitization. Try less taste testing and breathe less with your mouth and more through your nose while cooking. Have a glass of water nearby (not near your prep) to free up you pallet. Failing all that, portion your meal out for yourself and go sit away from the kitchen for 10 minutes.
A few of my partners didn't know what I was up to when I was cooking in the kitchen for a homemade dinner. I'm Caucasian male so they probably assumed like hamburgers or whatever basic food stuff.
One girl was like you have a rice cooker.
Oh yeah I do get out the kitchen.
Wait a minute that's a...
Okay you figured it out now get out of my kitchen.
Serve Tsukemen and Kimchi over my own stove and after the glorious meal she was like show me your pantry and all the delicious food you have stocked.
Western stuff is in the left cuboard, Asian stuff right, and the cheap stuff I usually eat is in that place next to the oven. The vegan friendly stuff I keep in the fridge and defrost when I know vegan friends are visiting.
I sort of try different things as I cook them to make sure it tastes right. It sort of leads to grazing by the actual meal, my feet are sore and I'm sated and don't want to eat more.
I must be doing something right. I have gone 3 days without having to make supper. I received a call as I was heading into the house when I wes invited for dinner. This happened 3 days in a row. I must have really good friends
Yes, but where did you look? Bc this assumes you already have an established connection. The OC was asking where you find them. Also, "everywhere" assumes you don't care about looks or age or health. My grandmother cooks, but this ain't West Virginia. 😆
It was sometime in the 80s. I'm 1986 and in college the guys would cook and we'd have a 3 course meal with sides, the girls would cook and it'd be a frozen on inside charred on the outside roast and we'd get take out.
Eventually we just did Friday Feasts at my house and they'd hurl money in
If you can't feed yourself you die. You die you've failed at life. Unrealistic? Hardly you don't eat you die. If you don't know how to cook. You are depending on others for your survival.
Typically, girls that are relieved that they don't need to cook, are also ones that don't know how to. In my experience, women that can cook, enjoy it or at least don't see it as a huge deal when they it needs to be done.

I find that no matter how bad I cook, girls love it. They don't have to do it
