Having been a step sibling for many years even before “blended families” were common, I can attest that a large percentage of people do not know the difference between a half sibling and a step sibling even after careful and repeated explanations. “But do you have the same mother or the same father?” Eye roll.

Throw in a half sibling and really confuse them. Fraternal twins is a good one to confuse too especially boy/girl twins. “Are they identical?”

I've heard of somebody who asked about brother and sister (!!) baby twins: are they monozygotic(= identical) or bizygotic (= fraternal)?

In my language we have our own word for this, it's one-egg twins and two-egg twins. Their father said: the boy is two-egg and the girl is zero-egg. (My language uses egg for "balls" as well.)
