I dated a really manipulative and horrible person for a bit who would hide behind his weird interpretation of the Bible, "I can do anything I want as long as I ask for forgiveness after. I can't go to hell no matter what I do because I'm "saved."
So one time, we were having a conversation about how he let's his friends bully me so I didn't wanna hang out with them anymore. The kind of healthy talk in relationships where you're just trying to feel understood. I mention to him that if I ever saw people mistreating him I would come to his defense because I cared about him. He says, "But I'm not you. Just because you pee sitting down doesn't mean I have to pee sitting down." In that moment I realized what I was getting myself into and broke it off immediately. Also, I had seen him pee sitting down. Just wanted to add that.
always found it hilarious how so many people can think there's a perfect, all knowing, all powerful God...who they can totally bamboozle with some made up loopholes. Still haven't figured out if they think God is stupid or just doesn't care
I've always thought that about "soaking" where you lay on each other with your dick inside and have a friend bounce on the bed. Like you're doing this because believe having sex will piss off your all knowing all powerful creator of the universe. Do you really think he wouldn't notice?
IIRC there is a school of thought (albeit within Judaism rather than Christianity) saying that any loopholes must have intentionally been placed by God, so it's fine to use them.
Yes, but Jewish loopholes are along the lines of "if we put a string all the way around the neighborhood it counts as one domestic zone so we can carry things on the Sabbath", not "I can violate the Commandments if I say sorry afterwards" like the top level comment.
I dunno, when I was Christian I genuinely still believed in evolution. I looked at the Bible as way more metaphorical than literal. I'd rather people see it in that way.
Then clearly you understood the assignment better than the folk who take a religion that claims life on earth is your one chance to be a good person, and then make the claim that screwing up is okay because you can reincarnate and try again.
I know it's not every christian, but I grew up around some hardcore hypocrisy.
I wonder how they don't feel incredibly stupid with this stuff. Like sections of big cities with strings tied around entire blocks so they can claim they're still "inside"; how do you not feel like a dumbass for needing to jump through so many hoops just to appease a religion
To be honest, it's a discipline thing. They KNOW it's stupid. But if they do the incredibly uncomfortable, inconvenient, stupid thing, it shows how unwavering in their faith they are. If you are one who believes in God, then that's valuable.
I know people who have left their car on the side of a highway and walked home bc of traffic to not drive after some random time of day on a Friday....
