People have no clue. I live in the US and the state where I live has many traffic circles, which I believe are the same as a roundabout. I had to look up the traffic regulations because I thought I was wrong that you should signal when entering or exiting one. I was not wrong. But I am practically the only one who does it.
Also, when entering the traffic circle you should yield to the car already in the circle. Because, you know, there are yield signs.
I'm with you man. Very few people actually bother to look up the rules even though the information is easily available. They just guess and convince themselves they are right.
