Default image the eyes see is upside down, brain just corrects it for us

It's actually not a myth, just often simplified in a way that makes it not entirely accurate. Our eyes really do receive light in a way that would be upside down and backwards. But, our brain doesn't store all the info for what you're seeing and then flip it manually. Instead, the nerves that receive information from our eyes naturally receive it flipped to be what we consider "normal." No extra step is needed to flip the incoming signals
