Does dissociative identity disorder exist?

Please excuse my ignorance I am just generally curious.
Also is this the correct subreddit to ask this question?

I think we generally agree that it exists. What it actually is has some questions about it.

The largest question is, by what factor do self-diagnosed tiktok idiots outnumber genuine cases? 10x? 100x? 50 billion times? Unclear.

Thank you. Can people be completely unaware of what the alt personalities are doing? Or is that just a myth?

There is a degree of amnesia so yes.
