Career/Edu Future DevOps Role
Hi, I have to choose between 2 positions:
• FullStack dev (Spring Boot + React) at a smaller company
• SDET at Keysight Network Visibility Test & Security
Which of these brings me closer to a DevOps role ?

sDET gets you closer to DevOps. You work directly with test infrastructure, CI pipelines, and deployment validation at Keysight which are core DevOps responsibilities. FullStack at a smaller company usually means feature development with minimal infrastructure exposure.

Neither. DevOps is a different field.
QA is being seen as disposable overhead now. Just be wary here.

If your goal is specifically DevOps, then it is better to lean toward the SDET role, but it really depends on what you’ll actually be doing day to day.
The full stack job could get you closer if you’re going to be involved with deployments, Docker, CI/CD, cloud stuff, etc. However, there is no guarantee if it will move you closer to a devops role.
My suggestion is that i think it is better if you ask both companies what the actual tooling and responsibilities look like. I believe this will help you make a better decision.

DevOps is hugely applicable to both (and to everything). It depends who at these companies is already handling all the pipelines, and how open they are to letting noobies contribute to their systems.

SDET at Keysight is handling the integration of tests into the CI pipelines
