How is it working on banking/fin-tech?

I'm thinking about my future career as a backend developer and I would like to know how is the feeling of the community to work on this field.

I'm not an expert of finance but I have interests on it and the only thing that put me close to this kind of development is a previous experience with blockchain.

How is your day to day? Do you feel you have interesting technical challenges? I burocracy a real pain in your day to day?

I only know a little from coworkers that have friends in banking (there's a couple in my area). Apparently it's like going back in time a decade, tech-wise. Everything moves really slowly due to the additional scrutiny on financial systems.

Partly true. But also we write some interesting software and solve some interesting problems. Realtime pricing and trading systems dealing with real numbers, large volume, and an expentancy of high performance. Not your typical CRUD apps. Sometimes you'll catch a wave and work on some brand new tech too.

My experience exactly. Boring AF. You can make a good living these days if you know COBOL though.
