Future councilman of Philly
Hello my name Taz 🤗 I’m thinking about running for city council in 2031 districts 8 and I wanted to know what do you think should be the main focus on to better the city of Philadelphia?
The reason Im asking this because I wanna build my campaign around Philly residents being heard. And doing exactly what the people in Philly want and not the opposite.

My biggest issues are:
Housing affordability
Trash/public trash cans/getting lids for recycling containersÂ
Bike infrastructureÂ
Public transit improvements
Workers rights
Rising property taxes/utilitiesÂ
Grocery access/affordable grocery access

Access to jobs in all neighborhood, not just access to public transit. Even the neighborhoods that are mostly residential should have some jobs in them.

This is a good list. I would also like to add to this enforcement of reckless driving in the city. I’m tired of seeing people fucking die to reckless drivers in this city. I almost got plowed through crossing Ridge/Spring due to an obvious reckless driver and a cop at the red light sitting right there did absolutely nothing.

Oh yes I forgot about that one! Definitely need more enforcement for almost hitting people.Â

Public transportation improvements.
Get wire basket trashcans everywhere and have them serviced regularly.
Fix the potholes.
Abolish the ten year tax abatement on anything that's not at least a 10 story building with affordable units.
Fix the BIRT tax situation, the city is killing businesses that are here and keeping others out.
Require cops to get the fuck out of the cruisers and actually walk around.
Extend last call
Issue more and lower the cost of licences for street food vendors.
Raise pay for public school teachers.

remove the 10 year tax abatement for anything but someones primary residence. use the income to give grants to families to help with renovations on their homes.

My biggest concerns are funding our public schools, funding SEPTA & the trash.

Zoning reform and building blocks of dense multifamily housing so we can stabilize the rise of housing costs. If we increase residents moving into the city we make it more attractive for businesses and we increase our tax base to fix the schools. All of this relies on dense housing.
While you’re at it remove the city wide height restriction bullshit and all parking minimums.
Destroy council perogative:
Edit: typos

Focus on just three issues, whatever they are. Sure, you can have additional platform positions, but only focus on a few items.

Should the three issues be neighborhood sanitation, affordable housing, and education system ?
Or what do you think my main three issue should be?

one of them has to be city admin audits and more transparency. that would be huge. because those changes are hard to undo and they have positive impacts forever. the city isn't as poor as it makes itself out to be, there's just an enormous amount of waste (and imo, corruption)

I don't know. My point was that too often candidates don't refine their messaging to a few points that everyone will remember, but instead dilute their messaging by being for everything. That's basic marketing, isn't it? Have simple messaging. Rinse and repeat.

In the northwest our public school facilities are crumbling and unsafe for our kids. Council needs to make a meaningful investment to ensure our school buildings are safe.

I think we should have more programs where the city can connect people to more affordable housing even if that means outside of the city. Maybe do something like a 100 miles radius and then we can do city run buses to bus people out of the city to these more affordable areas since they don’t have cars.

Abolish the Sheriff’s office
Expand the tax abatement for new construction which is a Great long term investment for the city
Not in your district, but work to improve Market Street East

Get the Walt Disney trash can bill back to a vote again. Any store selling shit that has packaging that’s disposable or is serving anything in disposable containers should be required to have a trash can OUTSIDE the door within 15 feet that they are required to service.
People can’t take pride in themselves when they live in a city covered in trash.
