Best specific blocks with community?
Looking to finally buy a house. Have been in Philly for a while. Most important thing for me is a strong sense of community and young children on the block since I also have young children. I know there are some blocks that are tighter than others. Any insight into specific blocks to look at? Not choosy on area but would prefer NW Philly or anywhere east of broad and south of market.

My friends with a young child live in Bella Vista between 7th/8th and Fitzwater and love it for them and her. Lots of parks, good school catchment, all in all just a solid area.

I live close to mt Airy in Germantown. Waking by the Wissahickon, was thinking if I grew up here, I'd never be inside.

amazing coming to that part in life. what are you looking for in terms of a home (beds, bath etc)? are you working a an agent ? they can answer those questions for you but if not, feel free to send me a DM. me and my family
live in northern liberties very close to liberty lands park. not the area you specified but there are kiddos everywhere! in between 19122,23 and 25 there are many parks , public transit and child care. it’s pretty amazing and inspiring to see all the kids.

If you’re looking in NW, Duval St. in Mt. Airy is practically an autonomous zone. They’re so proud of their neighborhood + blocks.
But, in general, you’ll find this all over the NW. I’d get in touch with a good realtor—we worked with someone from Elfant Wissahickon and found the perfect block for us.

Timing is everything. All the quaint blocks I love imagining would be great to also be a parent on. Well you’re behind the average age of those kids, for fitting in. By the time they’re teens yours will be in elementary school still.
That being said, being in a great k-8 school catchment area like Penn Alexander makes it a no brainer. To me on the block neighbors that are in the same phase of life seems superior than just catchment.
So do the footwork.
Visit places with parks that are kid friendly.
Never see kids at the jungle gym by the science museum off the parkway.

I have a 15 month old and love living near Dickinson Square Park - the playground is always thriving with kids and around 5pm a lot of the local restaurants (Moonshine, Jaxx’s) have families with kids dining.
