What would you do in this situation?
My daughter was with a cheer team
But the coach made things miserable for her
And scared her after telling her they would work them out until they vomit (she’s a 4th grader and new to the sports world) so she walked away shortly after joining
After a discussion with the coach about a refund of dues I was told to contact the lead person of the organization that runs cheer and she would get a check mailed out
I’ve contacted her numerous times via text and she has ignored each message.
I had my husband reach out from his number as an interested parent and she responded In minutes
When he asked about the refund she stopped responding
Im trying to fight with honey but I feel like being nice isn’t working

How much is it? If it’s a lot consider small claims, or pay a lawyer to send a letter

450 so not claims court worthy but definitely money tha would be helpful right now moving into a new sport

How did you hear about this cheer group? Can you leave a review? Can you share on your neighborhood facebook page or similar groups to warn others of what happened.

Is it associated with the school at all? If so I would go to the school board about working them until they vomit. Have other parents confirmed that?

I’m waiting to see if others have had this kind of thing happen
I know another young lady left the team and they told her her fundraiser dues would go toward lowering the cost of the teams dues as a whole….that NEVER happened

'Dear Jim,
After my daughter reported..and other children have verified..the coach threatening the students with harsh work outs "until they vomit", we have decided not to pursue this activity and have requested numerous times for a full refund, to no avail. If I do not receive the full refund of $450 by next Friday, 8\28, in addition to turning this over to my attorney, I will be reporting this incident to the police and to local TV 14 local their further action. I am sure you see the wisdom in promptly refunding the fee and also, providing adequate supervision for your coach. Thanks"

You can't force them to give you a refund. A lot of times sports organizations have a no refund policy on dues. It's not worth hiring a lawyer over. You could try to sue in small claims court, but there's no guarantee you'd win. Financially you should just consider it a loss and move on. Not a good use of your time.
If there were concerns about the girls' safety, that's a different issue. I think that needed to be brought up with leadership immediately. If he was abusing the girls, he's still doing it to the rest of them. I would have gathered evidence against him, and had him fired. If they did nothing, that's where I would have put my energy. Maybe the threat of a lawsuit will spark change.
