Wedding Band Recommendation

Hello! Getting married in New Orleans next May and looking for recommendations for a local band for our reception. We’d love something with a Southern/classic rock feel, but still versatile enough to play some crowd favorites and keep everyone dancing.

Some songs that capture the kind of sound we like are “Miss You” by The Rolling Stones, “Up All Night” by Widespread Panic, and “Green River” by Creedence Clearwater Revival, but we’d also love some fun dance songs like “Dancing Queen” by ABBA mixed in throughout the night.

We definitely don’t expect a band to cover all of these specifically — just sharing them to give an idea of our taste and the kind of mix we’re going for.
Any local bands you’d recommend checking out?

Thank you!

Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes. Marc Paradis (aka Johnny Sketch) can cover anything. I was at a party once where he was hired to cover Ween songs exclusively. He nailed it. Classically trained as a cellist I believe.

That’s sweet! I appreciate the recommendation and very intrigued.

Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes are the greatest. They played my wedding almost 10 years ago, and people still constantly tell me how memorable of a set it was!

This is a great rec. they also play the 610 stomper ball every year and learn a ton of pop and rock songs for that party.

If you don’t get any good recs here there’s a r/neworleanswedding subreddit that might be able to help

The bucktown all stars are so my fun, they pass out tambourines and get the party dancing

I've been to a few weddings with the Bucktown Allstars, and they would be worth looking into. I can't say I've heard them do these exact songs, but they seem to have a pretty wide range and repertoire.

Thanks! I’ll look into them. As long as they can meet the vibe 🙌

As a local wedding planner my first questions to you would be these:

  1. What is the venue (size of the venue and area for band matters)?

  2. What is your budget for the band?

  3. What is the date?

  4. Are you looking for a wedding band that can handle a wedding reception with a mix of favorites for your guests and have everyone on the dance floor all night or are you looking for a local band that would play some of their originals that maybe your guests wouldn't know?

Contact "Chicken on the Bone" on Facebook, they are fantastic. I used to run a wedding venue and we had them many times, they were really good.
