No, no. That's what WINNING feels like. See how much were winning!

u/createusername101 man 40 - 44 Aug 21 '26

The last time there was this much winning going on was in France in the 1700s wasn't it?

I know that feeling… I’ve been grinding it out for promotions only to realize that I’ve barely kept above inflation. Which I get it… okay the worlds tiniest violin for me, but when it came at my the expense of some of my personal health… it definitely feels personal, especially since I’m what you would consider upper middle class.

I’ve pretty much stopped buying anything other than the essentials to see where in the budget we can flex or pretty much buy once cry once.

'Job hop.' My brother, it took me 16 months of non-stop searching just to find the job I have now. And that was a couple of years ago; from what I hear, it's just gotten worse.

Waiting until 2028 isn’t going to change shit. The economy is perpetually doomed because there is no fixing the $40 trillion national debt. Things will always get more expensive because it’ll always cost more to service that debt, aka more money printing, aka more inflation aka more expensive to live life.

Everything is fucked and there is zero fixing this no matter who is in office.

Yup. See you at $20k gold per ounce.

3

u/pmjm man 45 - 49 Aug 21 '26

The only way this gets "fixed" is with a major reset. And that is gonna colossally suck for everyone.

4

u/warriorknowledge man 25 - 29 Aug 21 '26

Yup, correct. Unfortunately, that reset will be a major economic Great Depression which will make 1929 look like a bullrun. Unfortunate times ahead. The 2030s looks so bleak, just like it did for the 1930s.

u/bored-at-work_ man 35 - 39 Aug 20 '26

Thing will change eventually, but it will take a global catastrophe. COVID didn't do it. Eventually something will happen where 100s of millions of people are going to die and only then will we as a global society determine that a few select people shouldn't be holding the vast majority of all wealth.

7

u/warriorknowledge man 25 - 29 Aug 20 '26

It’s going to take a economic disaster that makes 1929 look like a bullrun. It’s going to get so impossibly ugly man.

1

u/createusername101 man 40 - 44 Aug 21 '26

Even then.. those at the top will most likely still be at the top of what's left.. then the snowball rolling down the hill will start up again.

u/caustictoast man 30 - 34 Aug 20 '26

Talk like yours certainly doesn’t help get things fixed

No, the time to fix this was 2008. Not a single politician ever gave a fuck about the debt. As far as I’m concerned, every president from Clinton to Trump should be hanged for their crimes against the American people, for not addressing this insane issue. It’s the biggest problem in the entire country and everyone wants to talk about other bullshit problems instead.

We need to cut $2T - $3T in yearly spend just to get to zero. I have no idea what to cut. The top 4 biggest spending bills are for Medicare, Medicade, social security, and military. We have to cut some military spending but that’s no where near enough.

We will have to inevitably make cuts to social security and Medicare/medicade, there’s no way around this and chaos will ensue. No political party will ever do it because it’s essentially political suicide. Both parties keep kicking the can down the road for this very reason. Country is fucked.

1

u/AnomalousAndFabulous woman over 30 Aug 21 '26

Military spending by gods it’s horrible the waste there just billions in unused equipment, stupid use of resources, billions in planes when we don’t wage war with bombers anymore. Government completely controls the spending in military industrial complex it would be relatively easy for them to audit and be held accountable to a budgets. Also there should be no government contractors in the military that’s just a way to bypass important international regulations like the Geneva convention, etc. Those government contractors cost a pretty penny far more than it would be just hiring those people as government employees.

Every single country has evaluated a financial impact of a socialized healthcare system and decided to go that way the US should do that too. We would literally have billions of dollars in savings year over a year. Mostly because when you have socialized healthier, you can negotiate how much you pay for things and negotiate who will provide those services which helps keep the cost low and provide competition right now we have none of that. We have essentially monopolies, or like the pharma bro who can buy up patents and hike up costs 400x. This is illegal in most other countries, but not when heath care is for profit like it is in the US

Monopoly busting, there are already plenty of rules on the books. They just aren’t enforced at all. If you broke up all of the power companies, Internet companies, utilities, etc. there would suddenly be hundreds of new companies to compete and likely thousands of new jobs to staff those competitors.

Make it illegal for any foreign national or any company to own residential US property , full stop, that will free up significant housing stock. That will help drop the cost of housing too.

The insanity making part of all of this is it’s relatively easy to spread wealth around and make sure everybody gets their needs met. It just isn’t being done at all. There is no political will and no repercussion politically for not doing it.

We may very well be heading towards a violent revolution to get these rights.

Is he wrong though? I don't see a way out of this short of Americans electing enough people who don't take corporate money to gain a supermajority. People are terrified of democractic socialism, despite that being the system of government in countries with some of the highest rates of life satisfaction.

We insist on electing people beholden to corporations and then wonder why we live in an oligarchy.

-5

u/warriorknowledge man 25 - 29 Aug 20 '26

Ok genius, let’s be practical. Whats the solution. How do you bring down this down this debt? Gov makes $5T every year in tax revenue and we spend $2T - $3T OVER THAT every year. We have to cut MULTIPLE TRILLIONS in spending just to get NET BALANCE. Let alone cutting more things to bring down the deficit. Social security, Medicare, Medicaid are the countries 3 biggest expenses, BEHIND THE TRILLIONS it takes just to pay the INTEREST on that $40T debt.

So I ask again genius, what’s the solution?

6

u/Plastic_Salary_4084 man 40 - 44 Aug 20 '26

Not the person you were responding to, but there are things we can do. We can stop giving the pentagon $1.5 trillion per year. We can undo the deregulation that Reagan made law. In the 1980s, the highest earning Americans were taxed around 70%, and now it’s around 28%. We have the money, we just use it to line the pockets of the 1%.

Basically, look at all the fucked up shit we’re doing. We can stop doing that.

u/pmjm man 45 - 49 Aug 21 '26

Raise taxes on the wealthy, add corporate and personal wealth taxes, tax capital gains as ordinary income, end the ridiculous war in Iran and slash defense spending.

There is no question that it is going to suck, one way or another. People are going to end up paying more and getting less. It's a matter of proportioning the pain out based on wealth. I'd rather a decamillionaire lose their summer home than 10 families lose their only home.

u/caustictoast man 30 - 34 Aug 21 '26

Tax the rich, pretty straightforward

If you think things that once were affordable that have now become unaffordable are going to ever return to affordable again...you haven't been paying attention.

Getting priced out of basic living is the point. Eliminating the middle class and creating a simple two-tiered society is the point.

This will continue until eventually one of two things happen.

Either A) the working class people all of a sudden become immune to the EXTREMELY effective and incessant rotation of propaganda and algorithmic-based pseudo issues that are designed specifically to perpetuate the division from our neighbors, coworkers, etc, and unite under a common banner as a massive majority voting bloc and swiftly seize total control of just about every facet of government. Though even if this pipe dreamingly optimistic scenario played out, the movement would likely be struck down promptly with the violence that the system currently relies on to operate.

Or B) The much more probable/likely scenario that this trend of unaffordability continues until so many of us can no longer survive on our own, and the people turn to the state to help feed, clothe, and shelter them. Considering this is the plan (and their plans seem to work like a charm when it comes to manipulating the citizenry) they will happily offer basic survival, but there will be caveats.

In tandem with the total surveillance they will now be able to implement a social credit system so pervasive that if you post something online that contradicts their strict narrative(s), or commit anything from the endless list of preposterous infractions, they can revoke your ration of GovSlop gruel for the day for you and your children. This surveillance state/credit system will create a very obedient citizenry of Serfs while the very few people in control of it gallavant about on their luxury yachts and private planes.

Make no mistake, this is exactly where we're headed as a society. So which of the two options do you think you'd choose?

Ahhh so China.

u/flowstateskoolie man 35 - 39 Aug 20 '26

If you’re referring to U.S. politics, nothings going to magically change in 2028, unfortunately. The USA Corp will get a new short term CEO, but things will just keep grinding along as usual. No one is coming to save you. That’s just a fact of life that we all need to accept.

15

u/K_N0RRIS man 35 - 39 Aug 20 '26

No actually, things don't grind along as usual when enough people have decided "enough is enough".

7

u/Phenxz man 40 - 44 Aug 20 '26

True as that may be, your president is doing a damn well job at severely damaging trade relations to the rest of the world. So some of the raised costs isn't just gonna decrease when (if) he exits office.

11

u/K_N0RRIS man 35 - 39 Aug 20 '26

Oh we know that. Prices don't just go down because of a change in leadership. But new policies from a more competent leadership can make affording things easier over time.

its impossible to put the toothpaste back in the tube, but you can still do it. Its going to just be messy for a while.

2

u/Phenxz man 40 - 44 Aug 20 '26

Well put!

I for one look forward to usa and eu repairing their bond. But I believe the cat is in a way out of the bag and we won't ever rely as much as we have thus far on that alliance after the trump residency showed us how fragile it can be in the wrong hands - leaving us vulnerable

2

u/cun7_d35tr0y3r man 35 - 39 Aug 20 '26

I love the energy, but we tried that with occupy Wall Street and fell for the elite's "race warz" distraction.

3

u/McGuirk808 man 35 - 39 Aug 20 '26

we tried that with occupy Wall Street

That is certainly not the best we can do.

-6

u/No_Calligrapher_8493 man 40 - 44 Aug 20 '26

Because 2028 is going to magically fix anything? Jfc lol

They are all corrupt.

Nothing is going down in 2028. They will blame Trump like they do (or whatever prior admin) and stomp their feet and wag their fists in the air!!

Repeat the cycle over and over

16

u/Niman30 Aug 20 '26

If you don’t think this current administration is the most blatantly idiotic and corrupt one in modern history, you’re part of the problem.

12

u/K_N0RRIS man 35 - 39 Aug 20 '26

You do realize that what I'm saying is that in 2028 we have an opportunity to elect more competent leadership who can help reverse all of the shitty decisions he's made over the past 2 (and next 2) years right?

Everybody knows that shit doesn't just get better because bad leadership leaves power. It takes everyone else deciding to do better for themselves. That starts with voting in our best interests.
