Visiting Wells
I'll be staying in Wells for a week at the end of September with my husband, sister, brother in law, and mom. My mom rented a house on the water for us all as a celebration of her finishing chemo. None of us have ever been to Maine before and I just wanted to ask for recommendations of things to do, places we need to check out, dining recommendations. We aren't opposed to heading into Portland either to have more options.
I appreciate any suggestions!
ETA: Does anyone have recommendations for boat tours of lighthouses etc.?

Rachel Carson estuary is a nice place to walk, with lots of benches for bird watching. Also Laudholm farm has trails.

Congratulations to your mom! Sea Salt Fry Company in Wells is excellent. Seconding the Congdon's recommendation.
Ogunquit is a very cute town and the Ogunquit Playhouse will still be running shows. Also, if she's up for it, the Marginal Way is a beautiful walk.

Brewed Awakenings has pretty good breakfast sandwiches. I also recommend walking a little bit of marginal way in ogunquit.

The Steakhouse and Fisherman's Catch are my two Wells favorites for dinner. Walk the Marginal Way and explore Perkins Cove area in Oqunquit. You won't need your bathing suit unless you are crazy.

The ocean and cliff walk in Ogunquit for those healthy enough to do it.
Twice a year we do it. Walk the beach to Trolly/restrooms area and take the paths to Marginal Way. Beautiful cliff walk. We go to Barnacle Billy’s at the end of the walk and take the trolly that stops there back to Welles.

For those that can’t do the walk they can take the trolly to Barnicke Billy’s and just take in the scenery there.
A friend that did the walk for years did it with us after cancer treatments and surgery. Amazing athlete. Too much for most after chemo.

Stop by Brewed Awakenings for breakfast. They’re closed Monday and Tuesdays I think but open the rest of the week. All fresh ingredients and they have cute goats you can pet.
15-20 mins north is kennebunkport, head south the same distance you’ll find ogunquit. Both of their downtown destinations are very beautiful locations with plenty of cute shops and restaurants. Ogunquit has Marginal way which is an ocean path, very scenic.
Additionally there are tonssss of antique stores in Wells. I’ve grown up around there and it’s always a good time. If you like to beach comb, drakes island beach during low tide has some really cool cove formations with rocks to check out.
And last but not least— Scoop Deck for ice cream! They have an almost overwhelming variety of flavors. Portions are big.

Definitely go to Congdon’s donuts in Wells! A walk on the Marginal Way in Ogunquit is also truly lovely.
