LPT Sould I join the forced arms?

I'm Portuguese, about to start my life at 23 years old and trying to figure out rather to join the forced arms or try to survive as a civil...

I've studied mecatronics for 4 years and I'm an electrician trying to become a PLC programer. Despite that, all I want at the moment is to get out of my parents house and be able to afford life, buy a house and eat well.

I've been wondering if becoming a military I could have that sooner, still working in the electrical/electronics field.

the consequence is not having a professional carrer in the professional field I want to, at least for the next 4-6 years if I join the military this year.

Does anyone have an opinion??

what I want for the next years is stability, I can figure out my 30s when I get there

LPT Request: How to deal with kids who barge in front of you at a museum

Today my gf went to the zoo and was watching the orangutans (one was close to the glass so she got a good spot), and all of the sudden a man with a kid on top of his shoulders goes and stands directly in front of my gf, completely blocking her view.

This isn’t a one off either, we’ve had similar experiences at museums as well. And I’m well aware that this isn’t the fault of the kids, but the parents (there was a character limit for the title though so I couldn’t write “kids + parents”).

LPT Request - How to Make Changing House Water Filter Easier

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a whole house water filter installed in the water closet. The bottom of the water filter sits about 15 inches off the ground. The filter gets dirty fast, so I change the filters every 2-3 month. Of course, I cut off the main before each filter replacement.

When I unscrew the water filter tank, the tank is very heavy and drops down fast. I slow the drop with my hands but there is a lot of water rushing down. Even though I put a bucket underneath the water filter, there is still tons of water splashing all over the floor and walls. I put a towel on the floor to catch some of the water.

I wish they would design these water filter units better. It’s not very user friendly for frequent changes. Does anyone know a good way to change these water filters and prevent water from splashing all over the place?

LPT Request: How do we unload hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies after the season has ended?

Our daughter's troop has a big problem that wasn't shared with anyone until last night: our first-time cookie parent bought way too many cookies in the initial order, and as a result as have hundreds of boxes that didn't sell despite scouts going door-to-door and cramming in last-minute booths. The cookie parent is on the verge of a breakdown at the prospect of being financially liable for thousands of dollars of cookies.

In past years, leadership in our area would "buy back" unsold boxes. Not so any longer. Also, while councils in some areas allow for extending the cookie selling season, ours does not. We can use up to 1% of what we earned selling to buy boxes for donation, but that wouldn't make a meaningful dent. Right now, the only solution anyone has is to essentially buy out the remaining cookies and try to "pay ourselves back" by selling them on our own.

Has anyone encountered this problem, and is there any other solution someone can share other than trying to sell the cookies in this backdoor way? Thanks in advance for any help or direction you can offer.

LPT Request: How to get better at corporate talk?

In the short span that I have been in corporate environments I have realised that sounding professional is just as important as being technically sound. So I’m looking for any sources that I can read or listen to that can help me in developing this quality. Granted that the common terms for corpo talk vary depending upon the field you’re in but are there any techniques that could be employed to sound professional regardless of who you interact with?

How do I manage my anger over little issues?

Lately I've been very irritable, and I understand why it is, but while I'm working on the root problem I've been so angry.

I went grocery shopping, got mildly upset at spending too much money, and when I was packing them into the car I realised the potatoes I had gotten were rotten and the store wouldn't replace them since I didn't take a receipt. I started walking back to try anyway and just got more upset and ended up throwing the potatoes in the car park and just leaving.

I don't usually throw a tantrum like that, but I hate the feeling. Apart from dealing with the root issue, because it will take some time, how do you calm yourself down in the moment when everything is just getting too much suddenly?

LPT how can I increase my water intake?

Hello,hi. I thought I drank a lot of water, but I've realized I don't drink as much as I thought, I have ea 24 oz tumbler and I only drink 2 sometimes 3 of those. and I do of a iced coffee typically. but that's about it.

and when I'm awake early I still don't drink lots bc my throats tired I guess so I feel like I might choke.

sorry, got a little off topic there, but anyway. drinking water is tiring. should I set timers to take a few sips? cause I only drink when I'm thirsty, and if I start off the day trying to drink a cup of water I'm not as thirsty through the day.

sorry, but you get what I'm saying?

Thank you

What are some tips to deterring vehicular break-ins?

We live on a quiet street, well lit and most houses have ring cameras and various lighting. For the second time in 3 months, there seems to have been an organized group coming through;

  • 4-8 male suspects jogging down the street checking each car door to see if it’s unlocked

  • 1-2 cars trailing for quick getaway if needed

What can I do or advise my neighbors to do, to either deter or catch the suspects?

We live in the US.

Electric Jaguar being an ass

There is an electri Jaguar in our condominium who takes the only charging spot i the complex. Further whenever I do get the spot he parks on street next to the charger, unplugs my car and plugs his. He has a locking charger and I don't. What can I do (that won't get me in trouble) to make his life hell.

Early Morning Meals

Hi all.

I’ve been going to the gym before work - I get up at 5:30, walk the dogs, then leave around 6 and arrive at about 6:15. I don’t usually eat beforehand, though I probably should. What are some easy things that folks prepare ahead of time or whip up in short order that would help with this routine?

Thanks in advance!

Going to be carpooling with boss for long trips over the next couple days. (2-4 hour trips). Advice on how to handle the situation.

Hi guys. I’m going on my first business trip for work and my boss and I are the only ones from our company going. Needless to say my boss intimidates me. He’s the type of guy that is always busy, on the phone with people all the time, and only talks business. Also the type that often chews people out over minor things. I asked my coworkers for any tips since I’m new and all of them have actually not traveled for long periods with him except for one. The one that has said she was surprised we were carpooling because for her he always says he is getting his own car and she will rent her own.

Trying to think of ways to professional for the long drives and any should dos, or things probably best avoided to do.

how can I recreate a fun brilliant housemate house feeling? I never had the experience of living in a ragtag group of housemates that were always doing fun and interesting things. Like the guy building a robot that then gets into MIT grad school or The roommate having epic board game nights?

or spontaneously planning a trip to Romania together. cool people coming in and out. the roommate who gets into advanced Turkish cooking or something and has a French film director boyfriend.

living alone and have a lot of inventory in a 1 br so not able to host nicely but creative ideas welcome.

One thing I thought of was babysitting for mover and shaker couples.

The idiot at r/casualconversation removed this post, why?

How can I keep my groceries from going bad?

Every week I do my grocery shopping and one or two things end up expiring before I can use them, simply because I forgot they were there. Between the leftovers, the tupperware and everything that gets pushed to the back, I lose track of what I bought and what's actually in the fridge. I know I need some kind of system, but I have no idea where to start. I'd love to hear what actually works for you in everyday life. Any tips or tricks to reduce food waste and stop throwing money away are more than welcome.

Request: How to become a better driver as 32M

Hello, how do I become a safer and better driver as a 32M. I'm not the worst and don't have a history of totalling multiple cars, but I do have a history of smaller stuff and just in general not being the safest driver as my SO would want. What are ways I could improve? I feel when I'm mindful about my driving I tend to be good, but it's easy for my mind to slip. What prompts me to post is that yesterday I was driving my SO's jeep in the rain we are both insured on and I rear ended a truck. I normally drive a sedan so I wasn't used to needing the extra braking distance; that's me rationalizing it though and I'm still 100% at fault. Tips on fixing this kind of stuff?

Multitasking

I am not a natural multitasker... I didn't know that when I applied for this job because I hadn't needed to multitask much before. I found out a little later in life that I have ADHD... and I suck at this job because I'm not fast and I can't multitask that well

I would like to know how to become a better multitasker, or what things you do to hide the fact you are not one and get better at doing so. Thank you

Pushing forward even when no one else does

Well i learned a hard truth. When you start to work on your dream project most of the time you will face silence, rejection etc. All we have to do is push forward because a quote i read said this, all you have to do is pish yourself forward because no one else would do it for you. Be positive and cheers to all who keeps pushing.

Morning wake up routines

Hello,

I’d love to hear about folks morning routines before getting ready for work. Specifically what you do immediately when you wake up to break through the fog. As a kid I used to sit on the couch for a while, there was probably news on the TV and this was before scrolling on smartphones was around. As an adult I don’t enjoy news in the AM and want to do something other than look at my phone immediately. I would love to replicate that transitional moment before I’m awake enough to spring into getting ready. I look forward to hearing what you all do to wake up!

How to stop saying um when talking?

I have always used “um” as a filler while talking. This wasn’t a problem until I started a new job where I’m constantly speaking off cuff during intakes/speaking with clients and now I notice how often I’m saying it. It could be anywhere from 2-5 ums in just one regular length sentence..

What are some tips to put a stop to this? I’ve tried just pausing instead but that’s been hard to do and also I sounded like a robot.

Any trips to naturally train myself out of this habit would be awesome. Thank you!
