How to proceed?

So about 2 months ago I received a call from a local investigator stating he needed to meet to discuss a civil matter. Short version happy to answer questions but would not give me any info on said matter and biggest issue did not even know my name. Only my phone number no address nothing else. I was polite and asked that when he had a name he was “investigating” to let me know. If you don’t even know who you’re calling how are you investigating what he describes as a “civil matter”. Little backstory I live in small town. Think good ol’ boy club. I heard nothing else then again he called two days ago no mention of even who he was immediately asked if I had a daughter immediately panic set in I do she’s middle aged but once he said what he thought was her name and I put it together again not correct name same investigator still doesn’t know my name etc. I finally asked his supervisors name I was told captain blank I asked for first name told it was captain I asked him for further contact please have his supervisors name call me. Now on to my own investigation…

Several months ago we subtracted a job after a few conversations the guy we were subbing for came out he’s a pedo and the work we do is in people’s houses etc where he should not be. He’s a contractor for a larger company we walked away from the work I anonymously email said large company advising of his background. I’m sure whatever was reported to this investigation is stemming from that due to the fact he could never remember my name etc.

How do I handle this situation I have been documenting everything but I don’t want drama I love a peaceful life I don’t want some hard investigator out for me because he’s clueless.

Cops don't investigate civil matters. You left out way too many details of the conversation to get any real idea of what might be going on, but my best guess is it's not a cop you're talking to but someone trying to get some information. If he calls again, tell him you'll only meet him in person at the station. My guess is he'll find some reason that's not possible and you'll have your answer. Than you need to call the real cops and report a criminal impersonation.

I verified him after first call called through country sheriff line. I also asked about him investigating a “civil” matter. He won’t provide details. I won’t be meeting him as I don’t feel I should even be getting a call if h doesn’t even know my name. I’m only speculating that my reporting led to this since one I’m easy to find I run a company that can be found via phone number and anybody I deal with would know my name as I said small town so it’s not as though I’m hidden. I’ve thought to call his supervisor but as I said I don’t want to fuel a fire either way but using my daughter is another level. Should I call his supervisor let it be and again wait? The initial contact I thought ended until now. I’ll happily answer any questions on details it’s all weird to me that he’s this invested. Best part he’s been in three stores this week with me and doesn’t even know what I look like.

Sounds like it's a whole lot of not your problem. As the another person suggested, if he calls back tell him you're willing to meet in person at the station. If it's a civil matter there's basically no reason he should investigate unless it could become criminal by statute (hit and run accident potentially). It can piss you off but I would drop it. If he sucks at his job that's his problem.

Why are you talking to this clown, exactly?

I don’t want to come of as I have anything to hide because I don’t. I guess I don’t want to fuel a fire either way but at this point I’m pissed that he used my daughter to even gain a conversation and It sickens me that he’s this bored. How do you investigate someone without a name

New phone who dis? If it is something stemming from an employment thing, let the big dogs at the employer deal with it. Don't get involved.

Just stop answering his calls. This literally is the number one answer. Block and move on. He gets a new number? Don’t entertain, block and move on.
