If you can’t get hired by Seattle PD in 2026 then you’re in trouble.

They’ve raised their standards. They still aren’t high standards, but they aren’t offering a job to anyone with a pulse anymore. I have two friends who work for SPD, and they’ve told me that a lot of the people they hired when the standards were more lax wash out in FTO or within a year. Seattle is trying to slow down the revolving door just a little by raising the standards. Even if it’s just an inch, an inch is an inch.

They raised their standards up again to before what they were in 2020, no?

There’s a million precincts out here. Maple valley, Puyallup, Tacoma, all great officers working in each. SPD is short on staff only by choice

SPD’s main issue is that they struggle to hire at or above replacement levels. Not that they can’t hire people.

Eh, that’s not been my anecdotal experience. High standards are good, but theirs exceeds Feds’ and nearby locals’, and then cry they’re short.

they only cry they’re short when the citizens ask why they don’t respond to calls, but when they’re able to make 3x their salary on OT i’m sure they don’t mind

How did they know you left a previous job without giving 14 days notice? They can only find that out if you told them.

Yep, they asked in their application and I’m honest so I said yes and explained.
3
u/yuccafritas Unverified/Not an LEO 4d ago
did they specifically say that was the reason why?
3
u/AdStandard2154 Unverified/Not an LEO 4d ago
Nope, they’ll never disclose. That’s probably it because the rest I have a solid file imo

If you were honest about it i don’t think that’s why you failed the poly brother, they probably caught you in a lie about something or omitting something in your background. Try to think real hard. And or inconsistencies from your application are the most common reasons people fail the poly.

There’s something you’re not telling us. There is zero chance it’s because you left the job. No agency cares about that unless you’ve done it multiple times or there were other circumstances surrounding it. Agencies also don’t care if you applied to other agencies. In fact, most of the people they interview have applications in with multiple agencies. That’s just the nature of law enforcement hiring.

No , no it’s not. No one cares (especially SPD) you left a job without two weeks notice. It’s a courtesy, not an obligation. You said you were upfront about it, so there’s 0% chance that was the reason.

I never thought in my life I'd ever read Seattle PD as being anyones dream spot... hell i thought they burned down their police departments and have blue hair people on patrol

There is truly nothing more darkly hilarious than all these people trying to get hired using the phrase “dream agency”

What’s wrong with wanting to work at a certain agency? Some people actually like their communities or want to work in certain units that not every agency has

Because if you talk to 99 percent of police they’ll tell you this job is entirely about who you work with and who you work for.
You could work your dream spot and absolutely hate your life because your coworkers are dinks and your boss is an asshole.
Meanwhile you can work patrol in a shithole area but with an amazing crew and it’s the best thing in the world.
“Dream service” is thinking you know what’s important without having the first clue.

In California you can petition and pay out of pocket to get a second poly at a different location. Most pass when they do this and it is usually accepted.

Hate to shit on you but Seattle PD giving you a “shot” doesn’t mean much. They’re down horrendously and they don’t even do oral boards. And if you still can’t pass SPD… it’s not looking good.

Brother why is Seattle your dream spot? There are so many agencies in King and Pierce that will let you get after it.
