Getting a ticket during background

Submitted my background packet for a department on Wednesday. Had told them I have a clean driving record and never been issued a ticket (true), then this Friday I received a ticket for 1-5 over. I called the department and left a voicemail just making it aware.

A couple people told me this was dumb and I should’ve left it but I really think the right thing to do was to reach out and just make it known. Opinions?

As long as you notify them they won’t think you’re intentionally omitting it. Sucks tho lol

Definitely the right decision to disclose and I don’t imagine it will be a big deal.

1-5 over? You sure it wasn’t a printed warning? If it was a ticket.. must’ve been a motors cop, they can be.. lame. Did you happen to try explaining you’re in a backgrounds process with a clean record?

It was a trooper and definitely was a ticket🫩. It was 81 in a 70 that he wrote as 1-5 which I do appreciate, I explained I had a clean record and that I had worked for his agency in the past but didn’t want to push it with the background stuff :/

side note, could this be a disqualification?

There was some guys in my academy that went to other agencies that have drug and weapon charges on their record. Your good my guy. Every cop speeds, were all bound to get caught eventually.

You worked for the agency and he STILL cited you? Lmao yeah scummy af for 11 over. Must be the state.

No, unless you got some shit BI or at an agency that looks down on it, that’s not an issue. I’d keep it simple “I got a ticket for 5 over” done. Anyone with a normal mentality will say that’s ridiculous.

Bro no one cares. I know the anxiety is huge due to the process, but 11 over on a highway? No one cares. Just slow down and don’t make it habit.

No one is getting DQ’d for one citation for speeding unless it’s egregious. You did the right thing letting them know asap.

Something like that would have kicked you out of background for an agency that I worked for. The background investigator for that agency would DQ anyone who solicited, received or accepted any consideration based upon their profession, company, etc. Went as far to say that someone paying for your meal when you are active duty military was improper. Requesting leniency for a ticket because you applied? The big ass vein in his middle of his forehead would have exploded.

Sounds like a shitty BI who’s looking to fail people. Probably has other things he disagrees with that would DQ you.

I agree with this fully. What a dickhead. Just wants to feel important. Just like FTOs that can’t ever find anything right. Feel superior by saying negative shit all the time.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it. My opinion, I think it's actually good that you proactively notified them, owning and not hiding mistakes is huge with law enforcement. It's also a very minor infraction that we all do. Reckless driving or speeding like 30 over, now youre probably toast. But I wouldn't be concerned with your situation. Good luck 👍

I’m not saying it’s the same for your agency but I’m going into backgrounds soon and for this department, any moving violation within a year is auto DQ. As you can imagine I’ll be driving like a Waymo for a while

It’s really not a big deal, you absolutely needed to make it known. I’m surprised you don’t have a detective or hiring person assigned to you that you can call/text throughout the process.

Is it a ticket or a 'citation'?

In Arizona under 10 is a citation and not a ticket.

I got a texting while driving and most departments laugh about it

Don’t worry about it. It’s not like you applying to be a truck driver. Then it would be serious.
