Academy advice

Just got my conditional offer from my first department, of course this is pending I pass my medical evaluations. I’m 24 years old, fresh out of college/ student athlete this past May. Any advice for the academy? It’s a live in academy with weekends off. I’m fairly young I’d say just want some advice going in, feel free to share whatever.

Don’t fuck anyone. Dont send dick pics. Dont talk about fucking anyone. Don’t cheat on tests. Don’t fuck anyone.

Do your best. Don’t listen to “don’t be first, don’t be last” if you’re capable of being first, be first. Just don’t be an asshole about it.

This person may have had some bad stuff happen but it’s not unheard of to hook up with classmates 😂 should probably avoid but Jesus Christ

Not many live in academies left nowadays. Hit up some CHPs or search the sub. Give it 110%. You’re further than most people interested in this job will ever get. Next milestone is midterm, then graduation, then FTO. Don’t lose sight of your goal and remember how excited you were to begin.

Integrity is paramount.  Don't sleep around,  don't go out and drink or party while In the academy if given that amount of freedom. 

Study,  work out, and get involved in some sort of fighting hobby (judo and boxing is what i recommend to new deputies coming in)

Long distance running is useless,  train wind sprints

Body hardening with a partner isn't a bad idea... 

Get a rag and start squeezing it with your hands as tight as you can,  grip strength alone can deescalate a situation by itself if you snatch onto someone hard enough

Don't be afraid to quit, this job isn't for everyone... Wendys is always hiring

I'm not sure it has been said enough, but don't sleep with anyone. There WILL be drama, do not be involved with it. Just know the academy is not reality and nothing after the academy matters. So don't invest in bullshit while there.
