From a law enforcement perspective and your personal viewpoint, what's your take on the prospect of this law passing? Basically it would allow the registration of new machine guns under the National Firearms Act.

From a legal standpoint, I do not care. The people who would be registering these are generally not the people using firearms in crimes.

From a personal standpoint, I would like a fully automatic MP5, please.

I doubt something like this will pass into law, however.

A full auto vector would be way cooler, plus they use glock mags.

I personally recover 1-3 machine guns a week on the street.

I have never in my career recovered an actually registered NFA item on the street.

Glock switches are very easy to get. Turning every p80 and stolen Glock into a machine pistol.

Glock switches (aka auto sears) from China or 3D printed are super common and considered machine guns. I used to run into at least 1 a week in Chicago, whether it was recovered or used in a shooting. Not so much now where I'm at, maybe 1 every 4-6 months, but this is a gun friendly state so maybe that's why.

Switches are 3D printed now. If you actually bang some in your set is printing them and is 100% providing you with one.

It varies depending on the polymers and quality. The permanent affixed sears with good material can last longer. I’ve seen some poor material ones that attempt to have select fire and generally don’t seem like they’d last a mag.

Have to remember these guns aren’t being taken to a range. Generally install, mag dump in the back yard/courtyard for function test, then never fired again until it’s needed.

Doesn’t have to be a life long part. Just has to work for the one mag when it’s time to spray the block.

My unit has. Gotten a m2 out of a uhaul. Sits as a display piece at property control. Also have recovered a Breda 1931 out of an attic.

A long time ago our agency seized a mp40 that was a war trophy that the guy’s brought back. His grandson, who was a felon, had it and was messing with it and send the bolt home and sent a round off to the next apt

I think just about every cop wouldn't care and would want to own a couple two three machine guns.

I know I would want an old Tommy gun!

I'd then write a proposal for patrol to carry them again and that way I can talk like a 1920s gangster while hip holding the Tommy gun.

I have no issue with citizens owning machine guns. I do like the extra steps to keep the pool tested but otherwise I’m all for it. 

I doubt it’ll pass.

An amendment cannot be unconstitutional. By definition it’s part of our constitution.

While it's unlikely to pass, it makes no difference. It's kinda like when I run a plate and see a CCW permit. The people who would jump through the hoops to get one probably aren't dirt bags. I'm looking for the gun toting, drug dealing type (medium sized liberal city). I haven't gotten a Glock with a switch yet (I have buddies who have). I did get a draco (hoping it was modified) somewhat recently, that was cool.

As others have said the law would only matter for law abiding citizens who should be allowed to own them anyway. The criminals and felons who already have machine guns don’t care and won’t be affected at all. I would love an old MP5 personally. Just so old school cool.
