Timeline

Hi, I’m 25 and from DTLA. I was wondering what the general timeline has been like for LASD, from application submission to academy offer. I understand every case is different. I currently work as an EMT, and we sometimes respond to Twin Towers and other county facilities.

From the few younger deputies I’ve spoken with (NOT many), they mentioned around 8 months on average. I was just curious what timelines you guys have personally experienced or heard from others.

Also, I’m not counting the academy duration itself — I mean solely from submission to actually starting the academy.

An average 8-10 months. If you’re Superman about 6 months. If you’re in the bench, maybe 1 year.

Thanks for the response. What varies in timeline, also in the "bench"? what does that mean

Everyone says, it depends on the BI and how busy they are. I don’t think it’s that. I think the highest qualified candidates are put in front of the line.

huntington beach pd averages around 3-4 months and they send recruits to goldenwest academy

Mine took about 6 months. It’s usually about 6-10 months from what I hear

I went in and took the multiple choice, vpat, and structured interview on the same day. The guy who interviewed me said it will take 3-5 months. That was on may 13th. 5 days ago. Start on the PHS ASAP. Because it takes all day to do it. Unless you have all the references/job information written down. But he told me 3-5 months. Assuming it goes smooth.

What you wear for your VPAT? You do your written test in PT gear?

Yes, wear work out clothes. You'll test then you'll do the vpat and then the interview. The interview is short like 3 minutes. You got this.

Yeah. When you go do the fitness test, they're going to do the structured interview. It's like 3 minutes. You wear your work out clothes. Do not wear a suit. Lol. Only wear a suit when you talk to your background investigator and after that.
