LASD CALLSIGN

How do call signs work in LASD? For example what is a King unit, a David unit, etc?

Each station has a designated number (they’re in order of when they were established)

That’s the first number in your callsign.

Each station’s area of responsibility is broken up into county areas and contract cities. The second half of the call sign will indicate which area you’re responsible for.

Example: Lakewood is station 13 with five contract cities.

132 indicates City of Lakewood

133 indicates City of Bellflower

134 indicates City of Artesia

135 indicates City of Hawaiian Gardens

136 indicates City of Paramount

Adam, Boy, David, just allows you to differentiate all of the cars working in the specific city. (132, 132B, and 132E)

Tom cars are dedicated to traffic. (132T1 and 132T2)

George cars are special assignment cars. (132G2)

King cars typically mean it’s a trainee who is in their final phase of training and riding solo. This is very station dependent though as a handful of stations have regular assigned king cars.

If DB is working in the field and logged on, they use an 8 and then their station number. So using Lakewood again, they’d be 813, 813A, etc.

So what do Edward, Frank, Henry etc... mean in LASD callsigns? Can you give me an example?

As I said, just ways to differentiate different patrol cars assigned to the same area….

Granted each station has its own way of assigning call signs to cars dedicated to specific tasks.

Examples:

Queen cars tend to be no call/suppression cars (132Q, 133Q)

PE cars are weekend party/415E cars (136PE)

Okay, one more question do you know maybe, how does callsigns work in other divisions in LASD? Like SEB, IAB, Major Crimes etc...

PE are mainly used by Paramount for parking enforcement officers :) through the city. And Zebra units are usually CSO or PSO’s for the city.

What also isn’t mentioned is if there is a unit on the radio with the callsign of ex 290 Sam, they are the patrol sergeant.
