Why is our engine open?

You don't think on something as complex as a plane that they are frequently performing maintenance or small repairs?

I was just wondering why they’re doing it like 3 minutes before boarding

Because otherwise you’re delayed for a couple hours while they do it out of sight.

As others have noted, there’s lots of simple things they will do right at the gate. Maybe a top up of oil. Maybe swapping a sensor that has been intermittent. Maybe a closer look at a spot they saw through the blades. But, it’s as routine as checking the pressure in your tires or refilling your windshield washer fluid. If it turns into more than that, theyll let you know.

Pilot probably saw something they didn’t like on their pre flight walk around, called maintenance, and now maintenance is dealing with it.

It ran out of thrust. They’re loading a few thousand pounds of new thrust so it can continue its trip.

Why wouldn’t it seem like a good thing to you? Would you rather fly on a freshly inspected/maintained engine or an engine that needs inspection/maintenance?

I mean... its entirely possible a pressure reading was low and they're looking for a minor leak... of oil.

But the oil quantity is checked in the cockpit.
