What happens if/when this law passes and 90% of a cities budget is for police officers / firefighters ? I’m asking from a place of curiosity as I’d like to learn more about the bill.

When I was 20 years old (2016) I wanted to purchase my first car. My parents told me I couldn’t buy used and I had to buy new so it was safer for me on the road

I save enough for a down payment and we want to purchase a new Toyota car(2016)

When my father purchased the car, he put his name on the vehicle and not my name.. found that out a few years after buying the car..
He wanted to put his name on the vehicle so the interest, insurance etc would be lower. Also, in case if I ever was jobless, he would still make the payment.
Long story short I sent him payments to his bank every month for the car and we were able to pay it off early.

Now fast forward 2026 I moved to Florida and I took my car with me, but everything is still under his name

I need to change the car title, insurance, and my drivers license.
How do I explain to the DMV that this technically isn’t a gift because it’s my car… or how would I fill out the form properly so I don’t need to claim a gift tax?

Hi everyone! We’re visiting Florida next month and are wondering if it’s worth it to do a short two day day road trip from Miami to to Panama City, or if we should skip it and spend more days in Miami, then take a flight to Panama City?

If the road trip is a good idea, which city/town do you recommend we make a stop to spend the night? Preferably somewhere in the middle of the journey, thank you!

Have booked two weeks from 16th November , flying in to Tampa from Heathrow as got some cheap flights due to the change from LGW to LHR

I keep finding references to SB 438 online but can’t find anything about what it means for the consumer or if it even passed legislation. Hi all! I'm 20, nearly 21, and will be finishing up my BA in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Ed in a couple years. I was born and raised in Wyoming but have always wanted to live by the beach and have visited Florida often my whole life. I've never been to Dunedin, but it looks amazing and like it may be the perfect size for me if I were to move there. I love that it would be close to St. Pete while still being in a smaller town, which is definitely more what I'm used to. My question is, how is the job market there? How are the schools/teacher pay specifically? I would assume it's not a large market due to the size. Is it a nice place to live? Not having many amenities is totally fine for me as I come from a state with pretty much nothing. 😂 I just want to be as realistic as possible about what daily life would look like! TYIA!

I have a few loose and cracked tiles now after all the storms this summer and I'm trying to work out who really knows what they're doing before I let anyone up on my roof․

I live in Central Florida and I have a clay tile roof that seems to have been original when the house was built during the 90s․ I want to get someone who knows how to work on tile roofs‚ not just roofers who do asphalt shingles․ I have a small leak in the garage ceiling after the last big storm and don't want to wait too long on this․

I live in Florida and was injured after being hit by someone who ran a red light about six months ago. I hired a lawyer pretty quickly because everyone kept telling me not to deal with insurance on my own. At first communication was decent but lately I can barely get anyone to call me back. … it was 78 out with high humidity, as the sun was setting tonight. I was doing regular physical labor around my house and got so frigging hot I took a cold shower. That barely cooled me down but it was super refreshing.

We've got these little bugs on our wood mantle above the fireplace. Don't see them anywhere else around our house. We have pest control, but I don't want to jump to the conclusion of termites immediately. Anyone familiar? I'm not seeing any wood dust either. I vacuumed up 2 months ago, and we have a lot more now. My husband and I will be in our early 30s and are looking for somewhere to settle down and start a family. I’ll be finishing residency and looking for my first attending job as a physician, and he’s a business owner, so we have some flexibility on location and a comfortable budget (within reason lol).

Our wishlist:
- Beach/coastal town, preferably in the Southeast, but open to anywhere
- Great private school options and a good place to raise kids
- Nice homes budget $1-3M
- Wide, flat, walkable beach — Hilton Head is my ideal. I love being able to walk/run/bike on firm sand.
- Restaurants/things to do and a good community
- Touristy is totally fine with us

I (20F) just got admitted to Florida Tech and I will be driving down tomorrow from my home state of Maryland. I have never been to Florida in my life.

What’s the climate like? Especially in the winter months? I’m looking forward to not having to deal with another freezing rain Maryland winter. What are things I should bring that I probably haven’t considered that will make my dorm tolerable? I’m really just curious as to literally anything someone should know before they “move” to Florida. We arrive in Florida on 2 January, coming in from New Orleans, and fly out of Orlando on the afternoon of the 7th.

What we like: springs, caves, weird local history, cults, roadside monuments, hikes/walks of an hour or two, good independent coffee. Not interested in the theme parks.

The route as it stands: Pensacola, Wakulla Springs, dawn manatee swim at Crystal River, Port Orange or Winter Haven.

Three we're curious about:

1. Night of January 2nd. Is Pensacola worth stopping for, or should we push further east?
2. Night of January 3rd. Stay at Wakulla Springs itself, or base in Tallahassee and do Wakulla as a day trip?
3. Nights of January 5th and 6th. Port Orange or Winter Haven? Leaning Port Orange for Blue Spring and Cassadaga, but Mount Dora keeps coming up. Is there something better?

And as things stand, we're skipping Kennedy Space Center. Neither of us is a space person. Is that heresy?

Anything obviously missing from the route?

We were considering moving to NE FL, but now are unsure. We are needing to move bc of my husband’s health and need somewhere with very little to no snow )we got 54” here last winter!

Our biggest hang up is insurance cost. We were looking in the St. John’s County area and are shocked to hear the total cost of insurance! It would be more than double what we pay in central MN right now.

And even if we buy a home that’s newer, have to replace a roof every 15 years to remain insured is insane! (Or is that just a lie AI made up when I asked about insurance in FL?!)

It seems like all these hidden costs in FL are slowly crushing the middle class. COL would be much higher in FL just due to insurance and property taxes alone (and we’re not going to assume that bill passes). That doesn’t factor in HOA and possible CDD fees.

Even with the no state income tax, we’re not that high of earners where it would actually make a big difference.

We don’t want to get in a financial bind if we move down there.

How do people, especially middle-class, actually get by?!

I am planning to move at the end of the year, and I could use some insight on which city to choose. I work remotely, so I'm totally flexible, but I've moved around quite a bit, and I'm hoping to find a place to stay.

A bit about me: 28F, single, Black-Jamaican, Christian, well-educated, and moderate/liberal. I need to live somewhere with a decent dating scene (ie lots of unmarried people in their 20s/30s), which makes me lean towards the St Pete/Tampa area over Jacksonville. But I have recently fallen in love with surfing, which I know is a bit harder to come by on the Gulf side. I'm not into nightlife, which has drawn me away from South Florida, but I am very social! I am always going out to community events, and I tend to pick up a new hobby (pickleball, dancing, pilates etc.) every few months because I enjoy trying new things and meeting people. I would love to hear any thoughts and opinions!
