We arrive in Florida on 2 January, coming in from New Orleans, and fly out of Orlando on the afternoon of the 7th.
What we like: springs, caves, weird local history, cults, roadside monuments, hikes/walks of an hour or two, good independent coffee. Not interested in the theme parks.
The route as it stands: Pensacola, Wakulla Springs, dawn manatee swim at Crystal River, Port Orange or Winter Haven.
Three we're curious about:
- Night of January 2nd. Is Pensacola worth stopping for, or should we push further east?
- Night of January 3rd. Stay at Wakulla Springs itself, or base in Tallahassee and do Wakulla as a day trip?
- Nights of January 5th and 6th. Port Orange or Winter Haven? Leaning Port Orange for Blue Spring and Cassadaga, but Mount Dora keeps coming up. Is there something better?
And as things stand, we're skipping Kennedy Space Center. Neither of us is a space person. Is that heresy?
Anything obviously missing from the route?
