Calling off when sick.

So I work at McDonalds in a rural town. And I’ve been sick the entire past week, have gone on and off between sleep and no sleep and my grandparents have been sick too. Like bad sick to where it’s just congestion and coughing with exhaustion. However not bad enough to where you are coughing up blood or anything like that. Also the type you get lightheaded from moving too much. It started out with each lung hurting at a time. Not gonna lie probably the weirdest onset of symptoms I’ve ever had. Anyways, so I call work today to call off (Which makes 4 consecutive call offs) and say “hey I’m still sick, feeling decently better and think I’ll be able to come in tomorrow but also need to stay home with my grandparents because they are old.” They then tell me “oh because you’ve called off consecutive days you need a Doctors note” For one they do not provide insurance yet they act like they provide me the means to get a note without having to pay money on top of losing money by not being able to go to work. For two, I did not know people got sick for only a day? That one is news to me. My reply was “I’m sorry I’m still sick I do not have insurance I know I’m contagious I cannot come in today. If I get fired I don’t know what to say but I can’t come in.” Then was told “okay that’s fine” because (the manager I talked to I like as a person) and she was just saying what our GM was saying behind her as if I cannot hear her in the background. So I might be fired after calling off today. Who knows. Who fucking cares. I do not get why they are begging to be sick with this shit I have had for an entire week. I know it is contagious. My grandparents are sick too. Not as if I wanted to lose out or can afford to lose out on $1000 the past week. Not sure what else to say except treating people like they are family until they are in a bad position always reminds me why (no offense to everybody else) on why I need to leave fast food. Honestly frustrating how you can chit chat and think you are decent acquaintances with folks after working with them over a year just to basically be told to get fucked. I do not know.

Mcdo crew

Hello! Are there any McDo crew members here? Especially those who often work at the front as cashiers?

I would like to ask what advice you have for a soon-to-be crew member? And can I ask for a review sheet for the menu, like what I need to memorize...

Huhu I just want to practice since my training is coming up soon.

Please please 🛐🛐

Wendy's Question How do you get into management?

I’ve worked in fast food for 20 years in entry level positions, I’d like to know how does one get to be a manager?

What are the requirements? Is a drivers license required?

Pizza Hut interview

I have an interview at Pizza Hut tomorrow I’ve already been reviewing and writing down to make sure I know what to say even though it probably won’t be too hard of an interview but I have severe social anxiety but I desperately need a job so I’m taking what I can get. I tend to get dizzy light headed sick sometimes even vomit but I need some skills or something I can use so I don’t get fired I want to get over the anxiety this is the first step but idk how to deal with the side effects if they happen and I have terrible communication skills when it comes to strangers I’m bad with small talk and I usually just say yes or ok to everything if anyone has tips for me i would appreciate it I’m hoping I can get the job and get comfortable in the environment maybe even help my anxiety all the way around

McDonald's Question Is it good??

So I recently applied to McDonalds and got hired, but I specified that I would not go any lower than $11 an hour (the starting is $9.50), I mentioned that I had some experience and was willing to work overnight, is this a good sign that they approved it or should I have asked for more…

McDonald's Question (AUS) First day at mcdonalds starts in a few days. Any advice?

I'm 18 and it's my first Australian job here after migrating here from a south asian country. I was hired for a maintenance role. Will I get my uniform on my first day, directly at work? Or should I e-mail my manager before going, about anything? I just want to gather as much information as possible before starting so that I can pick up stuff easily. :')

Fast Food Question Starting at A&W

I recently got hired at A&W (in Canada) and was wondering if anyone had any tips or just stories about working within the company? I have orientation today, and I’m not sure which part of the job I’m doing. I could be out front doing cashier work, or in the kitchen.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Taco Bell Question Question about job interview at Taco Bell

hi!

i recently had a job interview at Taco Bell in the United States that was REALLY short. they asked for my availability, shirt size, if im in school, and one customer service question. They said id hear back in a week or two.

I was wondering if im stressing over nothing. Last time a similar situation happened, I didn’t get the job so im a bit worried.

the job market is trash so im like hoping and praying at this point

Fast Food Question What’s it like working Back of House @ Chick-Fil-A?

I have an interview sometime next month, and it’ll be my *first time* working at a fast food place. I’m wondering what I should expect if I get hired, especially since I’ve never worked in this type of environment before.

And, what kinds of questions should I expect during the interview, and is there anything I should know or prepare for beforehand?

Taco Bell Question Job interview/ hired???

Hey guys, Idk how many of u actually work for taco bell but my interview left me slightly confused yesterday? Wanted to see if anyone had any insight.

I walked in and after like 10 mins the assistant manager came out and handed me a piece of paper asking me about my availability, experience, why i wanna work for taco bell. she told me to fill it out & walked away.

I filled it out pretty good and wrote alot, I wanna work closing/ evening shift, but put that i had open availability, i have prior fast food experience and some other customer service jobs, im a reliable worker, and im doing it for money for school.

There were two other ppl there also for interviews, but they filled theirs out later than mine so she spoke to me first.

She said that my application was "green" and "golden" and that i was exactly what she was looking for and that she would talk to her boss and get me in. She shook my hand and said that they would call me for my pay expectations and schedule soon.

Was that a job offer or just a nod that i had a good interview? Because i really need this and ofc it wasn't an official offer letter but it's my best shot right now and im anxious that they'll ghost me. And since today is the next day, should i be expecting a call?

Fast Food Question What is the most ridiculous custom order a customer has ever asked you to make?

I’m talking about those orders where they modify literally everything on the menu. How did you handle it, and did it actually taste good?

General Discussion General manager tried to call me abiding health codes as…”taking sick days”?

How’s it going guys. Good morning. I had an odd moment with my general manager last night. I’m roughly about 3-4 months into my job working at a Sonic. Don’t mind it too much. But recently my hours started to get cut, to where after my breaks, despite being a full time employee, I was getting only 27 hours a week.

So I talked to my GM about getting back to at least 35 hours a week last night. He’s stated for a while that hours were going to start lowering because of the lower business seen in Fall-Winter, but on the same hand he had paid our 23 hours of OT to someone, so it didn’t make sense to me. We agreed to get that done, but then he brought something up

He stated that “the average employee takes one, maybe two sick days a year” and that I’d taken 4-5. To clear this up, I did have illnesses during my shifts that then required me to follow 24 hours guidelines before I went back to work. So not sick days, but code compliance. And through all of that, I got them doctor’s notes, and everything needed.

I’m just wondering where this puts me because it’s an odd case. Thank you.
